Dear co-learners and faculty, I, Dr Shiva Saidapur, 2017 batch giving my response for the motion that is ''E-learning is the need of the hour''

In the face of changing technology, the way learners learn is changing.

The expectation of the current digital and tech savvy students is that they want a mobile, relevant, personalised and self-paced content at a point of need. This is because the digital revolution and smartphones have triggered huge changes in how we access, consume, discuss, and share content. Many people want learning at a point of need and at their convinient time as many learn in evenings and at weekends or during travelling in a train or bus.

E-Learning is an active process, and e-learning encourages an active involvement of a learner. A key advantage to getting your learning online and multi-device is that it ensures you are in sync with modern learners.

With e-learning, there is no restriction of time or place. Learners can access any relevant and authorised information at any time from comfort of their home or work place which will save time and allow learning without undue pressure. The key advantage of e-learning is that it has quicker delivery cycle times than traditional classroom-based lectures.

E-Learning mainly helps in self-directed learning which will lead to increased retention of knowledge. Learners can focus on elements of a programme they need to learn and can skip the content that they already know.

E-learning is cost-effective and environment friendly ( less paper use)

So I feel that e-learning has an important role in teaching of medical students as there are many areas where e-learning can be implemented with successful outcome. So it is the need of the hour to incorporate E-learning as one of our teaching and learning methods.

Thank you all,

Dr Shiva Saidapur
